OVERVIEW

Imagine you could fuse the benefits of an online shopping experience with the advantages of shopping in the physical world…
A shopping mall kiosk lets you search and compare products offered by all the mall’s stores quickly and easily. Based on your selected products the kiosk will show you the best route to the stores. An AR-based navigation app will direct you along the route.

THE CHALLENGE

Save customers time and money as they search for the best products for them. Finding your way around the mall.

When shopping online people tend to compare between products, but in a shopping mall this takes time and effort and the best product/offer may be missed. Additionally, many people may have a hard time finding their way around the mall and may waste time searching for the right store.

RESEARCH

To better understand what and how people search for at the mall and what are their pain points, I have conducted a survey among potential users. 146 volunteers responded.

0 %

have some difficulty finding a store

59% ask for help from other visitors or salespersons.

0 %

usually compare between products before purchase

70% of respondents who do not usually compare between products do not do so due to lack of time or lack of desire to walk around the mall.

0 %

search by product category

25% search for specific product.
33% search by store

0 %

primarily shop at the mall

85% of them shop for fashion.

USER INTERVIEW

I do not have the time and energy to look for black tights for my girl. I will buy them at the first store I find.

Even though I visit the mall at least once a week I still do not remember what side of the mall the supermarket is located at.

I am upset when I find out that there is a hot sale for a product I already bought.

INSIGHTS

1

The information kiosk should be oriented towards shopping, particularly fashion shopping.

2

Kiosk should support all ways to search for a product (by shop, category, and product).

3

Navigating in a mall is an issue, even if it is a mall you know.

4

There is a clear need to compare between products while at the mall, however there is no convenient solution for this need.

PERSONAS

Shlomit Shaham

Shlomit visits the mall when she needs to buy something or meet friends. She frequently has a hard time finding her way around the mall and it takes her a while until she finds the store she wants or the cafe she is supposed to meet with a friend.

– Navigating quickly in a disorienting venue.

Yafit Modiano

42 | Administrative assistant | Married + 2

Yafit likes to hang out in the mall and shop. She always compares numerous options between making a purchase. She very much likes shopping with coupons or on a sale. If there is a hot sale she will probably buy more than she planned. She loves the shopping experience. She likes to hang out in the mall with her friends.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

FINAL CONCLUSION

There is no solution on the market that allows to search and compare products based on all the mall’s stores current inventory. No easy solution to navigate around the mall.

THE SOLUTION

The solution is two-fold. First, an efficient product search from which the user can select the products he likes. Second, AR-based navigation app that guides the user to the relevant stores.

EXPLORING UX CONCEPT

Version 3

Icons or not clearly grouped. Display of fashion’s sub-categories requires more than one click.

Version 2

Display of many icons can disorient the user. The added information may not be relevant to the user.

Version 1

The large generic ad at the top is not targeted to the user and takes away the focus from the search bar. The sales ads are also not personally tailored to the user’s interests.
